Hints and Tips

decorating and filling your cone
|
When the Brownies and Rainbows decorated the very first Advent Cones, we were amazed by how fantastic they looked and in how many different ways they had been decorated.
Now we would love to hear from you about how you have decorated your Advent Cone and what you have used to fill it. If you email us a picture of your finished cone we can put it on the website for everyone to admire.
We will add to these tips during the run up to advent
If your cone is still tightly rolled up when you get it out of the tube, carefully roll it back the other way and it will lay flatter. As you colour in your cone it will continue to flatten. It is not important for it to be flat as it is going to be made into a cone.
Always start filling your cone when it is still flat. If you try to fill it when you have already made it into a cone shape, you will find it more tricky.
Make sure you choose small presents or chocolates to fill your cone, that are not to big, approximately the size of a twist wrap sweet (e.g. Celebrations) or christmas tree decoration. If the present or chocolate is too big, it will not hang easily inside the cone.
If you do not want to use the tissue paper to wrap your present, you could make small bags using material with a Christmas pattern. You may be able to buy these from your local craft shop.
Felt tip pens or crayons work equally well to colour in your cone, but you can also use stickers or glitter to add that finishing sparkle. Christmas stickers look really good, but so do simple stars or hearts.
If you are making your Advent Cone as a gift for someone special, you may like to write a message on each of the baubles or stars, or use little notes or pictures as the present inside.
If you have any hints or tips you would like to share from making up your cone please let us know.
